HydroValve : A Vortex Flow Control Device
Introducing our unique vortex flow control device, this device is a self activating water flow control unit. Rain water flow control is achieved by hydraulic effect without the use of moving parts which makes this vortex flow control device very simple and maintenance free. Our water flow control device is typically used in rainwater storage (Attenuation) schemes, where it restricts and controls the velocity of storm water entering an existing or new drainage system. The result is to store the rainwater in the prescribed underground attenuation/storage system preventing flooding of the drainage system.
How does the vortex flow control device work?
At low flow rates, water enters through the inlet of the vortex flow control device and passes through the vortex chamber to the outlet with no restriction. As the head in the attenuation/storage system increases with increased flows from a storm the rainwater entering the drainage system increases the hydrostatic pressure. This pressure forces water through the water flow control device with enough energy to create a vortex in the vortex chamber, which results in a significant pressure drop between the inlet and outlet restricting water flow to the required discharge rate. The creation of a forced vortex in the chamber allows an outlet orifice much larger in size (3-5 times the CSA) than that of a conventional water flow control device. A forced vortex ensures highest velocity will occur at the outer wall, this will inherently shift any solids towards the centre where velocity is at its lowest. The solids can then exit the valve minimising the risk of blockage.
The HydroValve vortex flow control device has many advantages:
- No moving parts.
- Self activating.
- Self cleansing.
- No external power source required.
- Minimal maintenance.
Our HydroValve vortex flow control device has several patented features such as the unique mounting adaptor which allows the easy installation of the flow control device onto the curved surface of a 1200mm concrete manhole or the flat surface of a rectangular brick built or pre-constructed manhole. This unique mounting adaptor has an integrated bypass facility operated by a wire rope from the top of the manhole in the unusual event of a blockage. Another maintenance feature is a removable service plate on the back of the vortex flow control chamber
Water Flow Control Chambers
As an additional option we can provide our vortex flow control device in a pre-installed high strength polyethylene chamber. This eliminates the need for the construction of a manhole on site.
